Terms of Service
1. Scope
These terms govern use of the website crossborders.io and the CrossBorders apps for iOS and Android, the free newsletter or paid unlock of the full ranking, and the paid relocation report. By using the service you accept them.
2. Provider
Alexander Burkhard, Münsterlandstraße 68, 10317 Berlin. Full details in the Impressum.
3. Service description
Based on your questionnaire answers, CrossBorders produces a personalized, explainable ranking of cities. A free preview shows your best matches; depending on the platform, the full list can be unlocked with a verified newsletter email or a one-time purchase. Results are based on city data we maintain and a deterministic scoring model.
4. No advice
The results are a decision aid, not legal, tax, financial or immigration advice. Visa, residence and work rights and tax residency depend on your individual circumstances. Always verify decisions with official sources and qualified professionals.
5. Prices
On the website, unlocking the full city list costs €1.99 or is free with a verified newsletter email. On iOS, the unlock costs €3.99 as a one-time purchase through Apple. On Android, it is free with a verified newsletter email or available as a one-time Google Play purchase at the €1.99 German base price. The in-depth relocation report costs a flat €19 (incl. any VAT) and also unlocks the full list. No price is personalized; in other countries and currencies, the local price displayed by the relevant checkout, Apple App Store or Google Play (incl. any VAT) is binding.
6. Payment and digital delivery
Website purchases are one-time charges processed by Stripe acting as merchant of record (the seller of record for the payment): Stripe handles the purchase, issues the receipt and collects and remits any applicable VAT. After successful payment the full city list is unlocked immediately. The €19 report is generated after purchase and delivered by email via a permanent download link.
Apple purchases in the iOS app are processed through your Apple App Store account; Apple is the seller and payment processor and issues the receipt. The Android app is only distributed in countries/regions where Google is the merchant of record under the then-current Google Play terms. Google Play purchases are processed there through your Google Play account using Google Play Billing; Google processes the purchase and issues the receipt. The Android app does not offer alternative billing or user-choice billing. After a successful purchase the full ranking is unlocked immediately. “Restore purchase” in Settings restores Apple purchases only through the same Apple App Store account and Google Play purchases only through the same Google Play account.
The free Android unlock requires voluntarily joining the CrossBorders newsletter and confirming the newsletter email. It does not create a CrossBorders account. Unsubscribing later stops newsletter delivery, while the ranking access already earned remains.
7. Right of withdrawal for consumers
Consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal. For digital content, this right lapses if you expressly agree that we begin performance before the withdrawal period ends and you confirm your awareness that you thereby lose the right of withdrawal (§ 356(5) BGB). For the €19 report we obtain this consent explicitly at checkout (a confirmation checkbox); the right of withdrawal lapses once generation begins. Send withdrawals to alex@crossborders.io.
The relevant store terms additionally apply to in-app purchases; statutory consumer rights remain unaffected. For Apple purchases, use Apple’s process (reportaproblem.apple.com). For a Google Play purchase, you may request a refund through Google Play or contact CrossBorders at alex@crossborders.io; where required by our policy or applicable law, we process the refund through Google Play.
8. Acceptable use
Prohibited in particular are automated scraping, reverse engineering, circumventing limits or paywalls, and any abusive or unlawful use.
9. Availability
Uninterrupted availability is not guaranteed. Maintenance, third-party outages or force majeure may affect the service.
Rankings are computed and the full ranking is delivered server-side by the CrossBorders service. The unlock (on the website and in iOS and Android) grants access for as long as we operate the service; we do not guarantee that the service will be operated indefinitely. Runs saved in the apps remain readable on your device regardless. Server-side result snapshots are deleted per the retention periods in the Privacy Policy; an older run whose snapshot has already been deleted can no longer be re-loaded in full afterwards.
10. Liability
We are liable without limitation for intent, gross negligence, and injury to life, body or health. For slight negligence we are liable only for breach of essential contractual obligations, limited to the foreseeable, typical damage. Liability under the Product Liability Act is unaffected.
11. Data protection
Our Privacy Policy applies.
12. Changes
We may change these terms for good cause with reasonable notice. For completed purchases, the version in force at the time of purchase applies.
13. Affiliate links
Some links to accommodation providers are affiliate links. If you book through one, we may receive a commission from the provider at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships never influence city scores, rankings or the order in which cities are shown. Rankings are computed solely from your answers and our published data set.
14. Final provisions
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Where permitted, the place of jurisdiction is Berlin. If a provision is invalid, the rest of the agreement remains effective.
