CrossBorders

Terms of Service

Last updated: September 7, 2026DE·EN

1. Scope

These terms govern use of the website crossborders.io and the CrossBorders apps for iOS and Android, free results, CrossBorders Pro and other offered unlocks, the separately offered paid relocation report, and requests for relocation-help introductions. By using the service you accept them.

2. Provider

Alexander Burkhard, Münsterlandstraße 68, 10317 Berlin. Full details in the Impressum.

3. Service description

Based on your questionnaire answers, CrossBorders produces a personalized, explainable ranking of cities. Results are based on city data we maintain and a deterministic scoring model. The destination country and move intent declared in the final web quiz step do not affect the ranking.

On the website, rank #1 remains hidden together with its city and score. Ranks #2–#4 are readable, while ranks #5–#10 are shown as teasers. A verified newsletter email unlocks the full city ranking free. Pro adds the features described in section 5. The apps and previously earned access retain the separate offers and access rights described there.

4. No advice

The results are a decision aid, not legal, tax, financial or immigration advice. Visa, residence and work rights and tax residency depend on your individual circumstances. Always verify decisions with official sources and qualified professionals.

4a. Relocation-help introductions

Where offered, you can ask CrossBorders to connect you with a suitable relocation specialist. Submitting a request and matching by CrossBorders are free of charge and do not require a Pro purchase. CrossBorders does not itself provide legal or immigration advice through this service.

CrossBorders contacts you first about your destination, situation and requested help. Only after you separately approve a specific introduction to a named provider do we share the contact and profile details agreed for that introduction. Quiz answers alone or opening the form do not trigger sharing. You can withdraw your request at any time.

A request is not a confirmed booking. We do not guarantee a suitable provider, a specific appointment, or visa, employment or relocation outcomes. Free matching does not mean that all subsequent provider services are free. You agree the scope, any fees and contractual terms of those services separately with the provider before commissioning them.

5. Prices

On the website, CrossBorders Pro costs €1.99 once, including applicable VAT. There is no subscription. The preview withholds #1, shows #2–#4 readably and #5–#10 as teasers; a verified newsletter email unlocks the full city ranking free. Pro adds Life Scenarios, region filters, category radars, full fit explanations, the full Partner Combine ranking and unlimited personal web retakes. It does not include a separate generated report or promise future products.

The earlier web offer with ranks #4 onward free cost €4.99 once. The earlier paid Full Unlock web offer cost €5.99 once. These historical prices do not describe the current web offer.

Under the previously displayed newsletter offer, CrossBorders Pro cost €2.99; the city ranking could be unlocked free with a verified newsletter email. A separate combined-results unlock cost €2.99 in that offer. This historical offer remains effective for already issued unlock promises and access already earned; no second purchase is required for access you already have. New purchases are governed by the offer displayed at checkout; a purchase does not include newsletter sign-up or double opt-in.

In the iOS app, the unlock costs €3.99 as a one-time purchase through Apple. On Android, it is free with a verified newsletter email or available as a one-time Google Play purchase at the €1.99 German base price. These are separate store offers, not a change to native billing or a promise of cross-store restoration. Where offered, the separate in-depth relocation report costs €19 and also unlocks the full list. Prices are not personalized. In other countries and currencies, the local total displayed by the relevant checkout or store, including applicable taxes, applies.

In the paid web offer, shared results are included when at least one partner has qualifying Pro access. This does not give the other partner a separate personal Pro entitlement. Previously purchased combined results remain accessible under their purchase terms.

6. Payment and digital delivery

Website purchases are one-time charges through Stripe Managed Payments, with Link identified as merchant of record in Checkout. The checkout shows the seller and transaction terms; Stripe/Link sends payment receipts and handles applicable taxes and payment refunds. CrossBorders provides the product and product support. After successful payment, the purchased results are unlocked. Where offered, the separate €19 report is generated after purchase and delivered through an emailed download link.

CrossBorders sends an email linking to purchased results. To restore a web purchase, choose Restore purchase and enter the email used at checkout; use the emailed access link in the browser where you want access. No CrossBorders account or newsletter sign-up is required. These access emails do not create newsletter consent. Personal paid retakes follow restored access; restore first if you use a different browser. Keep access links private.

Apple purchases in the iOS app are processed through your Apple App Store account; Apple is the seller and payment processor and issues the receipt. The Android app is only distributed in countries/regions where Google is the merchant of record under the then-current Google Play terms. Google Play purchases are processed there through your Google Play account using Google Play Billing; Google processes the purchase and issues the receipt. The Android app does not offer alternative billing or user-choice billing. After a successful purchase the full ranking is unlocked immediately. “Restore purchase” in Settings restores Apple purchases only through the same Apple App Store account and Google Play purchases only through the same Google Play account.

The free Android unlock requires voluntarily joining the CrossBorders newsletter and confirming the newsletter email. It does not create a CrossBorders account. Unsubscribing later stops newsletter delivery, while the ranking access already earned remains.

7. Right of withdrawal for consumers

Consumers generally have a 14-day withdrawal period from conclusion of the contract and may withdraw without giving a reason, subject to the statutory rules on when the period starts and expires. If your right has not lapsed, send a clear withdrawal statement identifying your purchase to [email protected] or Alexander Burkhard, Münsterlandstraße 68, 10317 Berlin; timely dispatch before the deadline is sufficient.

Before immediate delivery of paid web products (CrossBorders Pro, the full city list, combined results and, where offered, the €19 report), we ask for express prior consent to begin during the withdrawal period and acknowledgement of the consequences. For digital content not supplied on a physical medium, the right expires only if all conditions of § 356(6) BGB are met, including provision of the contract confirmation required by § 312f BGB on a durable medium, recording both declarations. Payment or ticking a box alone does not extinguish the right.

For service elements, § 356(5) BGB applies instead: the right does not expire merely because access has been unlocked; complete performance and the other statutory conditions are required. Mandatory consumer rights, including remedies for defective digital products, remain unaffected. This is not a general waiver of refund rights.

The relevant store terms additionally apply to in-app purchases; statutory consumer rights remain unaffected. For Apple purchases, use Apple’s process (reportaproblem.apple.com). For a Google Play purchase, you may request a refund through Google Play or contact CrossBorders at [email protected]; where required by our policy or applicable law, we process the refund through Google Play.

8. Acceptable use

Prohibited in particular are automated scraping, reverse engineering, circumventing limits or paywalls, and any abusive or unlawful use.

9. Availability

Uninterrupted availability is not guaranteed. Maintenance, third-party outages or force majeure may affect the service.

Rankings are computed and the full ranking is delivered server-side by the CrossBorders service. The unlock (on the website and in iOS and Android) grants access for as long as we operate the service; we do not guarantee that the service will be operated indefinitely. Runs saved in the apps remain readable on your device regardless. Paid personal retakes and purchased results have the retention protections described in the Privacy Policy. Statutory performance, update and defect-remedy obligations remain unaffected. Other server-side result snapshots are deleted per the retention periods in the Privacy Policy; an older run whose snapshot has already been deleted can no longer be re-loaded in full afterwards.

10. Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent, gross negligence, and injury to life, body or health. For slight negligence we are liable only for breach of essential contractual obligations, limited to the foreseeable, typical damage. Liability under the Product Liability Act is unaffected.

11. Data protection

Our Privacy Policy applies.

12. Changes

We may change these terms for good cause with reasonable notice. For completed purchases, the version in force at the time of purchase applies.

13. Affiliate links

Clicking any recommendation takes you to the provider; from that click onward, the provider’s own privacy policy and cookie rules apply.

Recommendations may be organic or affiliate recommendations. An organic recommendation is an ordinary link for which we do not receive a commission. Affiliate links are marked as such and may result in a commission from the provider when you use them, at no additional cost to you. Not every recommendation is paid. Recommendations may be based on your answers and the relevant city context; affiliate status and commercial terms never influence city scores, rankings or their order. CrossBorders does not provide tax, banking or insurance advice.

Some links to accommodation, connectivity and VPN, remote-work, moving, international money, insurance and, where offered, language-learning or tax-service providers are affiliate links. If you use one, we may receive a commission from the provider at no additional cost to you. We do not transmit your profile or questionnaire answers to the provider. Only after you click do you leave CrossBorders; from then on, the provider’s own privacy policy and cookie rules apply. Affiliate relationships never influence city scores, rankings or the order in which cities are shown. Rankings are computed solely from your answers and our published data set.

14. Final provisions

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Where permitted, the place of jurisdiction is Berlin. If a provision is invalid, the rest of the agreement remains effective.
